“Slight Edge Performance Program”: Health Science; Diabetes Prevention and Solutions
“Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.” ~John F. Kennedy
Did you know…
According to a leading medical journal 1 out of 4 US adults have blood sugar levels that are above normal. The worst part is over 66% do not know it.
Symptoms of high blood sugar
•Experiencing heaviness, fatigue and exhaustion or afternoon tiredness.
•Craving sweets 1-2 hours after meals.
The purpose of this information presented in this blog is to help explain why it’s so important to maintain healthy blood sugar levels which are already within the normal range and the steps you can take to keep your blood sugar levels under control. Although blood sugar imbalances are usually associated with being overweight even healthy non-overweight people can experience them. Elevated blood sugar levels are an indicator of pre-diabetes. If these imbalances are not corrected they can lead to TYPE ll DIABETES.
Globally the incident of type II diabetes is alarming. With over 230 million cases worldwide and 7 million new cases yearly. Type II diabetes used to be called Adult Onset Diabetes but this is no longer the case because millions of kids are being diagnosed with this condition. All forms of diabetes begin with an imbalance in blood sugar levels.
When you consume food or beverages carbohydrates are usually broken down to glucose or blood sugar. The body’s main form of energy. This Glucose then enters the bloodstream. In response to increased levels of blood glucose the pancreas produces insulin which is released into the bloodstream. CHROMIUM is a very important nutrient that helps insulin bind to the insulin receptors that line each cell membrane. These bonds allow insulin to travel from in the bloodstream to the cells and to be converted into energy. Without a sufficient amount of chromium in the body both insulin and glucose build up in the bloodstream and the cells do not receive much needed energy to keep the human body operating at an optimal level.
However nutrition science tells us it may be difficult to get enough chromium without supplementation. Our diets may just not include enough whole grains or too many processed foods. In fact you would need to eat a balanced diet of the recommended 5-13 servings of fruits and vegetables, lean meats and whole grains to get the minimum requirement for chromium. Our ability to absorb chromium diminishes as we get older. Many researchers recommend adding a safe, effective and organic Chromium supplement to your diet which helps the glucose bind with insulin. Then it could enter the bodies cells and provide sustained energy, minimize cravings and help to maintain healthy blood sugar levels. Just as chromium plays an essential role in the breakdown of carbohydrates it is also essential for the healthy metabolism of fats and proteins.
One small study suggest that the nutrient mineral chromium picolinate may reduce the risk of insulin resistance and therefore may possibly reduce the risk of type ll diabetes. FDA includes, however, that the existence of such a relationship between chromium picolinate and insulin resistance or type ll diabetes is uncertain.
Solutions for Prevention
It’s time to be proactive when it comes to your health. Instead of having to react to a diagnosis it’s far better to be proactive and take the right preventative actions to stay healthy. Of course eating a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and water is essential. Also consistent exercise will help you stay fit and healthy. Because most people often don’t consume enough of their daily recommended nutrition through diet alone it’s very important to take safe, effective, plant based supplements to help fill in nutrition gaps. The American Medical Association recommends that all adults take one multivitamin daily. This is true even if you already eat a diet rich in fresh, whole, natural foods, because the foods you consume often don’t supply all the vitamins and minerals you need, at the recommended levels.
