“Why Omega 3- Fatty Acids Are Important for Lacrosse Players”

Why Omega 3- Fatty Acids Are Important for Lacrosse Players

BENEFITS
Increased support for memory, learning and concentration, support and protection for nerves, healthy blood flow and joint mobility are just a few of the incredible benefits scientists and researchers say are associated with DHA and EPA Omega 3’s and Fatty Acids.

What are Omega-3 fatty acids, and why do I need them?
Omega-3 fatty acids are long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. They are building blocks of every living cell in the human body and required for optimal function of the cells. If you are not currently consuming at least 2 meals of fatty fish per week, you may benefit from a supplement rich in EPA and DHA omega 3’s.

What is the difference between EPA and DHA?
Omega-3 fatty acids are important to every cell in your body and must be obtained from the diet for good health. Our bodies use Omega-3s to form the outer cell structure. EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) are two of the most important Omega-3s.

Research suggests that EPA benefits the heart and circulatory system by promoting normal lipid levels and blood flow. EPA also plays a role in the natural movement of joints.

Evidence shows DHA is an important building block of the brain, nerves, and eyes. DHA is the most highly unsaturated fatty acid found in nature. DHA supports normal mental function, optimal memory, focus, and learning. In fetuses and infants, DHA is critical for brain and vision development.

The average American diet contains less than 200 milligrams of the important Omega-3s EPA and DHA. Japan, England, and several European countries have set Recommended Daily Allowances for Omega-3s, but there are none in the U.S. yet.

I have heard that fat is bad for you. How can Omega-3 fatty acids be good for you?
There are good and not-so-good fats. If a label indicates hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils, that ingredient is an unsaturated fat that has undergone a chemical process called hydrogenation to turn it into saturated fat and trans fat. These hydrogenated fats are most often found in packaged foods such as pastries, cookies, and margarine.

Saturated fats are found in animal-based foods like meat, butter, and cheese. Saturated fats are not”bad” for you but a high intake of saturated fats as compared to poly and monounsaturated fats is associated with an increased risk of some diseases.

But some”good fats” like Omega-3 fatty acids contribute to health and normal cell development. They’re building blocks of every living cell in your body. A cell membrane made with building blocks that come primarily from saturated fat has a different structure and is less fluid than one which incorporates more Omega-3 fatty acids. This loss of fluidity makes it difficult for the cell to carry out its normal functions and increases the cell’s susceptibility to injury and death.

Omega-3 fatty acids are abundant in ocean fish, but many people in North America don’t eat a lot of fish and may need more Omega-3 fatty acids than their present diets provide.

What Omega 3 Supplement is best?
If you are not currently consuming at least 2 meals of fatty fish per week, you may benefit from a supplement rich in EPA and DHA. I recommend that you use the same safe, effective and organic Omega 3 supplements that professional athletes, MLB, NBA, NFL, MLS, MLL and Olympic athletes trust and believe in NUTRILITE® OCEAN ESSENTIALS® Balanced Health.

NUTRILITE® OCEAN ESSENTIALS® Balanced Health supports memory, learning, and concentration and nervous system with this blend of essential Omega-3s. NUTRILITE OCEAN ESSENTIALS Balanced Health provides a concentrated blend of 2 key Omega-3 fatty acids. Taken daily throughout the week, the combination provides the same amount of DHA and EPA as 24.5 oz servings of ocean fish.

NUTRILITE® OCEAN ESSENTIALS® Balanced Health provides support for normal blood triglycerides and healthy blood flow,
helps maintain joint mobility for an active lifestyle, may promote normal brain function and concentration and provides a special, 6-step process reduces unpleasant side effects common to competitors’ Omega-3 products.

“Slight Edge Performance Program”: Alarming Vitamin D Deficiencies in NFL Football Players

“Slight Edge Performance Program”: Alarming Vitamin D Deficiencies in NFL Football Players

According to a study presented at the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine 2011 Annual Meeting, vitamin D deficiency might be unusually high among American football players, with black players and players who have suffered muscle injuries showing significantly lower vitamin D levels.

According to the study, researchers tested the vitamin D levels of 89 professional football players from the New York Giants National Football League (NFL) team in the spring of 2010 and found that 27 players (30.3%) had deficient vitamin D levels (below 20 ng/mL). As many as 45 players (50.6%) had levels consistent with vitamin D insufficiency (between 20 and 31.9 ng/mL). Only 17 players (19.1%) had values within normal limits (above 32 ng/mL).

Lead author Michael K. Shindle, MD, an orthopaedic surgeon from Summit Medical Group, in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey said, “We found that an alarming percentage of players — 80.9% — had abnormal vitamin D levels of less than 32 ng/mL.”

Dr. Michael K. Shindle added that all players sustaining injuries that caused them to miss at least 1 practice or game had vitamin D levels that were significantly lower than players without muscle injury.

The study done with the NFL’s New York Giants consisted of 31 white players and 58 black players. Blacks tend to have lower vitamin D levels than whites in the general population. “Up to 93% of African American players had abnormal vitamin D levels, compared with 31% of white players,” Dr. Shindle said.

What is Vitamin D?
Vitamin D is an essential vitamin required by the body for the proper absorption of calcium, bone development, control of cell growth, neuromuscular functioning, proper immune functioning, and alleviation of inflammation.

Why is Vitamin D important for good health and athletic performance?
Dr. Shindle says, “It’s also been shown that vitamin D can increase the number of type II, or fast twitch, muscle fibers.” This is very important for athletes who want to get faster and increase their speed.

According to a 2009 study published in “Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise,” maintaining proper levels of vitamin D helps your body to properly use calcium, a mineral required for proper functioning of your muscles, including fast twitch muscle fibers. Consuming vitamin D can increase the number of fast twitch muscle fibers within your muscle tissue, as well as increase the size of these fibers. Overall, this translates to an increase in athletic performance.

Inadequate levels of vitamin D can lead to a weakened immune system, increased cancer risk, poor hair growth, and osteomalacia, a condition of weakened muscles and bones.

Other Benefits of vitamin D?
•It is crucial for the absorption and metabolism of calcium and phosphorous which help support and maintain healthy bones.
•It is an immune system regulator.
•It may be an important way to arm the immune system against disorders like the common cold.

What is the best way to get vitamin D?
Vitamin D for humans is obtained from sun exposure, food and supplements. Sunlight promotes sufficient vitamin D synthesis in the skin. Foods that contain vitamin D include fish oils, fatty fish, beef liver, cheese, egg yolks, and certain mushrooms.

Personally I have been taking a plant based food supplement called NUTRILITE® DOUBLE X® since my college football days at Virginia State University. I noticed how I had more energy to train harder and workout longer. I also found that my body was recovering faster from workouts and competition. My friend Amanda is a former college soccer player and in 2008 she recommended that I use it to fill all my nutrition gaps. She said Double X was the best and in my personal opinion she was telling the truth! NUTRILITE® is the world’s leading brand of vitamin, mineral, and dietary supplements. It’s formulated by NUTRILITE, the only global vitamin and mineral brand to grow, harvest, and process plants on their own certified organic farms.**

When you compare NUTRILITE DOUBLE X® to Centrum® and GNC Solotron®, there’s really no comparison! Double X contains more of almost every vitamin and mineral, plus many more plant concentrates, which provide superb antioxidant protection.

Why do I need a supplement?
The American Medical Association recommends that all adults take one multivitamin daily. This is true even if you already eat a diet rich in fresh, whole, natural foods, because the foods you consume often don’t supply all the vitamins and minerals you need, at the recommended levels. If you’re going to supplement, why not start with the world’s best multi? NUTRILITE® DOUBLE X® Vitamin/Mineral/Phytonutrient.

World-class Olympic sprinter and former world’s fastest man Asafa Powell is the perfect example of an elite athlete who plant based supplementation made a tremendous difference for and the reason for that is he was now provided with the nutrients he needed to operate at maximum efficiency.

Asafa Powell broke the world record for the 100-meter sprint in June 2005, three months after adding NUTRILITE™ DOUBLE X™ to his training regimen.

In 2005, the then 22-year-old Asafa Powell broke the men’s 100-meter world record at a meet in Athens, Greece becoming the world Record holder in the 100-meter sprint — just three months after his brother introduced him to NUTRILITE DOUBLE X. Asafa’s brother Donovan, who also was a world-class sprinter, was introduced to the NUTRILITE brand by his wife’s parents. Appreciating the benefits he received from DOUBLE X, Donovan supplied the multivitamin to his younger brother when he complained of low energy levels during his training early in 2005.

“Taking DOUBLE X was the only change I made to how I had been training,” says Asafa. “After I started taking it, I felt I had more energy to train harder and run faster. I am very careful about what I consume so I appreciate the balanced vitamin and mineral content plus the rich, all-natural plant concentrates in DOUBLE X.”

The world class runner said: “When I run, I don’t think about anyone else. I don’t think about my competition, I just do what I have to do. Nutrilite is a lot like me that way, because they don’t consider the competition in what they do, they just focus on being the best in their field,” he says. “I am confident that DOUBLE X and NUTRILITE will help me power up for the competitions yet to come.”

Learning is the beginning of wealth. Learning is the beginning of health. Learning is the beginning of spirituality. Searching and learning is where the miracle process all begins. ~Jim Rohn

Today We are going to Learn about the Health Benefits of VITAMIN A, the MINERAL MOLYBDENUM and the PHYTONUTRIENT RESVERATROL.

VITAMIN A is one of the required VITAMIN antioxidants your body needs on a daily basis to function properly. Vitamin A works with numerous natural herbs to fight off disease and keep your immune system strong. The Vitamin A benefits help in numerous bodily functions from keeping your skin healthy to fighting off infection & disease (including cancer). Vitamin A helps maintain healthy eyes, skin, teeth, and bones. It’s also essential for cell division, meaning renewal and it plays a key role in keeping your immune system strong.

Molybdenum is an essential mineral required for many signficant chemical processes in the body. The element is available from many foods, including beans, beef liver, cereal grains, dark green leafy vegetables, legumes and peas. Molybdenum, along with copper, controls the movement and release of iron in the body. The role of iron utilization is important because iron provides oxygen to the body’s organ systems, which is essential for life. Without molybdenum, all body functions would be impaired because they would not receive the oxygen necessary for metabolism. This Phytonutrient is key in Protecting your cells from free radical damage, Inhibiting the spread of cancer, especially prostate cancer, Lowering your blood pressure, Keeping your heart healthy and improving elasticity in your blood vessels, Normalizing your anti-inflammatory response and Helping to prevent Alzheimer’s disease. Because resveratrol appears to be so effective at warding off many diseases associated with aging, it is often referred to a “fountain of youth” that can extend lifespan.

Resveratrol is a powerful antioxidant and Phytonutrient.Derived from various types of berries especially grapes. Resveratrol has been shown to have positive cancer and weight loss benefits. Indeed, the health benefits of resveratrol are proving to be numerous and substantial. Resveratrol helps to protect your health, and that is by preventing your body from sphingosine kinase and phospholipase D which are two molecules known to trigger inflammation.
