“Faster Muscle Recovery For Lacrosse Players”

“Faster Muscle Recovery For Lacrosse Players”

This week while working out at the gym an athlete asked me what he could do for better muscle recovery? An athlete’s ability to recover efficiently after workouts, competition and training can make a huge difference in physical performance.

The problem is most athletes are deficient in a lot of nutrients and don’t even know it. The subsequent result of this nutrient deficiency is athletes feel tired mentally and physically.

Let’s talk about some of the foods and nutrients that your body needs to help you recover faster so you can maximize all of your hard work and WIN!

A well balanced diet can naturally help the construction, recovery and repairing of muscle fibers. This includes proteins and amino acids, but essential vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients as well. There are many vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients which help the development and recovery of muscle tissue. Some vitamins also help faster muscle recovery after some strenuous exercise and other physical activities.

VITAMIN A
Vitamin A is essential for cell growth in many tissues, including muscles. Vitamin A can be found in foods including: chicken, beef, chicken liver, cheese and whole milk and also in vegetable and fruit such as: carrots, kale, spinach, melon, apricot, peach and papaya.

B-VITAMINS
B-complex vitamins are necessary for the metabolism of proteins. After water, proteins are the most common compound of the body and the main source of energy. Your body needs proteins to build and maintain muscle mass. B-complex vitamins include B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B6 (pyridoxine) and B12 (cobalamin), pantothenic acid and biotin.

These vitamins are water soluble, which means they are not stored in the body. B complex vitamins must be replenished every day. These vitamins can be found in red meat, beef, chicken, eggs, milk and in citrus fruits and leafy green vegetables as well.

VITAMIN C
Vitamin C not only helps healthy muscle grow, it also helps in faster injury recovery. Vitamin C helps the body create protein collagen, which is found in muscle tissue and is considered to be essential for wound healing. It also helps the body absorb iron, which is an essential mineral in bodybuilding. Iron helps muscles recover during hard training by providing oxygen. Vitamin C is found in citrus fruits, strawberries, kiwi, melon, red peppers, broccoli, tomatoes and potatoes.

Vitamin E
Vitamin E has powerful antioxidant function in the body. This vitamin neutralizes harmful free radicals and protects cells from destruction. Vitamin E is important for the growth and recovery of muscle cells. Diets with low intake of grains food products can easily cause vitamin E deficiency. Vitamin E can be found in grain food products, green leafy vegetables and vegetable oils such as sunflower and olive oil. Walnuts, almonds and hazelnuts are also a good source of vitamin E.

Vitamin D
Vitamin D can be found in various food products, but our body produces vitamin D as well. This vitamin plays an important role in our body, but its most important role is regulating the absorption of minerals, such as calcium and phosphorus. Calcium is necessary for muscle contraction. Lack of calcium in muscles makes having hard and full muscle impossible. Calcium is necessary for bone development to withstand the increased muscle mass.

Phosphorus enables fast and strong muscle contraction during training, especially in exercises where weights are used. Milk, dairy products, cereals and fish are some of the food products rich in vitamin D.

Why do I need a supplement?

The American Medical Association recommends that all adults take one multivitamin daily. This is true even if you already eat a diet rich in fresh, whole, natural foods, because the foods you consume often don’t supply all the vitamins and minerals you need, at the recommended levels. If you’re going to supplement, make sure you choose a safe and effective that has been properly designed. Look for the NSF Certified for Sport Certification which is the highest certification in sports nutrition certifying that the supplement contains no banned substances.

I highly recommend choosing the NUTRILITE® Vitamin, Mineral and Food Supplement brand. Why not choose the same brand of safe and effective supplements that MLB, NHL, NBA, MLL and Olympic athletes choose and believe in?

For Faster Muscle Recovery I highly recommend serious athletes begin supplementing with these 3 key NSF Certified for Sport NUTRILITE® Supplements.

1. NUTRILITE® Daily Multivitamin Multimineral

2. NUTRILITE® DOUBLE X® Vitamin/ Mineral/ Phytonutrient – 31-Day Supply/with Case

“Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.” ~John F. Kennedy

Did you know…
According to a leading medical journal 1 out of 4 US adults have blood sugar levels that are above normal. The worst part is over 66% do not know it.

Symptoms of high blood sugar
•Experiencing heaviness, fatigue and exhaustion or afternoon tiredness.
•Craving sweets 1-2 hours after meals.
•Being overweight

The purpose of this information presented in this blog is to help explain why it’s so important to maintain healthy blood sugar levels which are already within the normal range and the steps you can take to keep your blood sugar levels under control. Although blood sugar imbalances are usually associated with being overweight even healthy non-overweight people can experience them. Elevated blood sugar levels are an indicator of pre-diabetes. If these imbalances are not corrected they can lead to TYPE ll DIABETES.

Globally the incident of type II diabetes is alarming. With over 230 million cases worldwide and 7 million new cases yearly. Type II diabetes used to be called Adult Onset Diabetes but this is no longer the case because millions of kids are being diagnosed with this condition. All forms of diabetes begin with an imbalance in blood sugar levels.

When you consume food or beverages carbohydrates are usually broken down to glucose or blood sugar. The body’s main form of energy. This Glucose then enters the bloodstream. In response to increased levels of blood glucose the pancreas produces insulin which is released into the bloodstream. CHROMIUM is a very important nutrient that helps insulin bind to the insulin receptors that line each cell membrane. These bonds allow insulin to travel from in the bloodstream to the cells and to be converted into energy. Without a sufficient amount of chromium in the body both insulin and glucose build up in the bloodstream and the cells do not receive much needed energy to keep the human body operating at an optimal level.

However nutrition science tells us it may be difficult to get enough chromium without supplementation. Our diets may just not include enough whole grains or too many processed foods. In fact you would need to eat a balanced diet of the recommended 5-13 servings of fruits and vegetables, lean meats and whole grains to get the minimum requirement for chromium. Our ability to absorb chromium diminishes as we get older. Many researchers recommend adding a safe, effective and organic Chromium supplement to your diet which helps the glucose bind with insulin. Then it could enter the bodies cells and provide sustained energy, minimize cravings and help to maintain healthy blood sugar levels. Just as chromium plays an essential role in the breakdown of carbohydrates it is also essential for the healthy metabolism of fats and proteins.

One small study suggest that the nutrient mineral chromium picolinate may reduce the risk of insulin resistance and therefore may possibly reduce the risk of type ll diabetes. FDA includes, however, that the existence of such a relationship between chromium picolinate and insulin resistance or type ll diabetes is uncertain.

Solutions for Prevention
It’s time to be proactive when it comes to your health. Instead of having to react to a diagnosis it’s far better to be proactive and take the right preventative actions to stay healthy. Of course eating a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and water is essential. Also consistent exercise will help you stay fit and healthy. Because most people often don’t consume enough of their daily recommended nutrition through diet alone it’s very important to take safe, effective, plant based supplements to help fill in nutrition gaps. If you’re looking to boost your ability to metabolize carbs, fats, and protein to reduce food cravings, unhealthy snacking and therefore helping to maintain healthy blood health, I highly recommend NUTRILITE® Glucose Health. I strongly recommend the Nutrilite brand over all other brands because of it’s proven track record of quality and effectiveness. NUTRILITE® Glucose Health helps your body use the energy in foods more efficiently with an exclusive blend of trace minerals and herbs. It Contains chromium picolinate, which may reduce the risk of insulin resistance, and therefore possibly may reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.

“Slight Edge Performance Program” Health Education: Liver Health

Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.” ~John F. Kennedy

“If you want to make big changes in your life start by making small ones. They can really matter and last!”

The Mayo Clinic Staff defines your liver as an organ about the size of a football that sits just under your rib cage on the right side of your abdomen. Without your liver, you couldn’t digest food and absorb nutrients, get rid of toxic substances from your body or stay alive.
Healthful Facts: fatty foods, alcohol and tobacco can impact your liver’s ability to function efficiently. Our modern lifestyle which includes high stress levels, poor diets, excessive alcohol, medication, poor water quality, processed fast food, exposure to hazardous pollutants like pesticides and herbicides put a lot of stress on our liver which can cause liver problems.

Our liver is the second largest organ in the body. It metabolizes carbohydrates, fats and proteins. It attracts nutrients such as iron vitamin A, B12, D from the bloodstream and stores them for future use. The liver also regulates blood clotting and detoxifies the blood by filtering toxins such as drugs, hormones, microbes and alcohol.

Even if you live a healthy lifestyle and practice good eating habits your liver still undergoes attacks everyday due to air pollution in the environment we live in. The Environmental Protection Agency of the US estimates almost 6 Trillion pounds of chemicals are released into the environment each year. Some of these make their way into your body via the air you breathe, food you eat and water you drink.

As your body’s primary organ for detoxification the liver processes everything you eat, drink or inhale. The liver is the only internal organ that can regenerate itself after damage. If your liver is unhealthy you may suffer from symptoms of liver problems like: extreme tiredness, general poor health, weight loss, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, fever, abdominal pain, itchy skin, enlarged or tender liver. A poor liver is also more susceptible to hepatitis A, B, C virus infection and probability of liver cancer increases.

SOLUTIONS FOR BETTER LIVER HEALTH
In order to avoid and prevent these problems you need to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Creating a good and healthy lifestyle is in your hands and it’s something you can cultivate. Some small but powerful changes you can make are eating lots of fruits and vegetables, beans, whole wheat cereals and less fat. Also drinking plenty of clean water and avoiding or limiting alcohol exposure. Also Incorporate antioxidants such as vitamin A, C, E into your daily diet. Apart from adopting these daily habits there are also herbs you can take to protect your liver.

One herbal remedy that has been known in Europe and other Mediterranean countries since ancient times is Milk Thistle. Milk Thistle is a recognized, natural supplement that can prevent liver damage. It is effective in managing chronic liver disease and protecting the liver from toxic, chemicals, alcohol, drugs and chemotherapy. Milk Thistle has been used in Europe to treat liver problems for thousands of years. In modern-day research Milk Thistle has been shown to protect the liver from damage. The detrimental effects of environmental toxins, alcohol, drugs may be countered with this valuable herb. This is largely due to the active chemical components in the herb that are collectively called Silymarin. Silymarin has the ability to stimulate the growth of new liver cells to replace old and damaged cells. It can also prevent free radical damage by acting as an antioxidant. In fact Silymarin is at least 10 times more potent in antioxidant activity than vitamin E.

Milk Thistle nutritionally supports the liver’s ability to maintain normal liver function. It has shown positive effects in treating every known liver disease including Cirrhosis (scarring of the liver), Necroses and liver damage from drug and alcohol abuse. Apart from preventing liver damage Milk Thistle can also stimulate the production of new liver cells to replace old damage ones. It also blocks the absorption of toxins into the cells, stimulates the secretion of bile (a substance that helps carry away waste) and is needed for the breakdown and absorption of dietary fats.

It’s essential that the Milk Thistle extract you choose for your liver’s health provides you with a minimum amount of Silymarin in each dose. Dandelion has been used for centuries to treat liver conditions such as hepatitis and to encourage normal digestion. It also has a high concentration of vitamin A and Choline (a B-Vitamin that stimulates the liver.) Tumeric is another natural extract which supports liver and gallbladder functions by stimulating the flow of bile. It is also high in vitamin C a very important antioxidant. These natural ingredients respond very effectively to our bodies, providing the supplement that supports and enhances our daily health. I encourage you to make the smart choice with NUTRILITE® Milk Thistle and Dandelion , a very convenient mix of natural herbs that support our liver. If you want to make big changes in your life start by making small ones. They can really matter and last.

Is your liver overworked? Fatty foods, alcohol and tobacco can all stress your liver and make its job much harder. So can common painkillers. Why not lighten its load before it lets you know it’s had enough? Product Advantage
The smart choice is NUTRILITE Milk Thistle and Dandelion, with more ingredients in one convenient tablet to support normal liver function.

Each tablet provides:
156 mg milk thistle extract with 76 mg silybin extract
125 mg dandelion root extract
75 mg turmeric extract
Citrus Bioflavonoid and Acerola Concentrates

“Slight Edge Performance Program”: Alarming Vitamin D Deficiencies in NFL Football Players

“Slight Edge Performance Program”: Alarming Vitamin D Deficiencies in NFL Football Players

According to a study presented at the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine 2011 Annual Meeting, vitamin D deficiency might be unusually high among American football players, with black players and players who have suffered muscle injuries showing significantly lower vitamin D levels.

According to the study, researchers tested the vitamin D levels of 89 professional football players from the New York Giants National Football League (NFL) team in the spring of 2010 and found that 27 players (30.3%) had deficient vitamin D levels (below 20 ng/mL). As many as 45 players (50.6%) had levels consistent with vitamin D insufficiency (between 20 and 31.9 ng/mL). Only 17 players (19.1%) had values within normal limits (above 32 ng/mL).

Lead author Michael K. Shindle, MD, an orthopaedic surgeon from Summit Medical Group, in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey said, “We found that an alarming percentage of players — 80.9% — had abnormal vitamin D levels of less than 32 ng/mL.”

Dr. Michael K. Shindle added that all players sustaining injuries that caused them to miss at least 1 practice or game had vitamin D levels that were significantly lower than players without muscle injury.

The study done with the NFL’s New York Giants consisted of 31 white players and 58 black players. Blacks tend to have lower vitamin D levels than whites in the general population. “Up to 93% of African American players had abnormal vitamin D levels, compared with 31% of white players,” Dr. Shindle said.

What is Vitamin D?
Vitamin D is an essential vitamin required by the body for the proper absorption of calcium, bone development, control of cell growth, neuromuscular functioning, proper immune functioning, and alleviation of inflammation.

Why is Vitamin D important for good health and athletic performance?
Dr. Shindle says, “It’s also been shown that vitamin D can increase the number of type II, or fast twitch, muscle fibers.” This is very important for athletes who want to get faster and increase their speed.

According to a 2009 study published in “Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise,” maintaining proper levels of vitamin D helps your body to properly use calcium, a mineral required for proper functioning of your muscles, including fast twitch muscle fibers. Consuming vitamin D can increase the number of fast twitch muscle fibers within your muscle tissue, as well as increase the size of these fibers. Overall, this translates to an increase in athletic performance.

Inadequate levels of vitamin D can lead to a weakened immune system, increased cancer risk, poor hair growth, and osteomalacia, a condition of weakened muscles and bones.

Other Benefits of vitamin D?
•It is crucial for the absorption and metabolism of calcium and phosphorous which help support and maintain healthy bones.
•It is an immune system regulator.
•It may be an important way to arm the immune system against disorders like the common cold.

What is the best way to get vitamin D?
Vitamin D for humans is obtained from sun exposure, food and supplements. Sunlight promotes sufficient vitamin D synthesis in the skin. Foods that contain vitamin D include fish oils, fatty fish, beef liver, cheese, egg yolks, and certain mushrooms.

Personally I have been taking a plant based food supplement called NUTRILITE® DOUBLE X® since my college football days at Virginia State University. I noticed how I had more energy to train harder and workout longer. I also found that my body was recovering faster from workouts and competition. My friend Amanda is a former college soccer player and in 2008 she recommended that I use it to fill all my nutrition gaps. She said Double X was the best and in my personal opinion she was telling the truth! NUTRILITE® is the world’s leading brand of vitamin, mineral, and dietary supplements. It’s formulated by NUTRILITE, the only global vitamin and mineral brand to grow, harvest, and process plants on their own certified organic farms.**

When you compare NUTRILITE DOUBLE X® to Centrum® and GNC Solotron®, there’s really no comparison! Double X contains more of almost every vitamin and mineral, plus many more plant concentrates, which provide superb antioxidant protection.

Why do I need a supplement?
The American Medical Association recommends that all adults take one multivitamin daily. This is true even if you already eat a diet rich in fresh, whole, natural foods, because the foods you consume often don’t supply all the vitamins and minerals you need, at the recommended levels. If you’re going to supplement, why not start with the world’s best multi? NUTRILITE® DOUBLE X® Vitamin/Mineral/Phytonutrient.

World-class Olympic sprinter and former world’s fastest man Asafa Powell is the perfect example of an elite athlete who plant based supplementation made a tremendous difference for and the reason for that is he was now provided with the nutrients he needed to operate at maximum efficiency.

Asafa Powell broke the world record for the 100-meter sprint in June 2005, three months after adding NUTRILITE™ DOUBLE X™ to his training regimen.

In 2005, the then 22-year-old Asafa Powell broke the men’s 100-meter world record at a meet in Athens, Greece becoming the world Record holder in the 100-meter sprint — just three months after his brother introduced him to NUTRILITE DOUBLE X. Asafa’s brother Donovan, who also was a world-class sprinter, was introduced to the NUTRILITE brand by his wife’s parents. Appreciating the benefits he received from DOUBLE X, Donovan supplied the multivitamin to his younger brother when he complained of low energy levels during his training early in 2005.

“Taking DOUBLE X was the only change I made to how I had been training,” says Asafa. “After I started taking it, I felt I had more energy to train harder and run faster. I am very careful about what I consume so I appreciate the balanced vitamin and mineral content plus the rich, all-natural plant concentrates in DOUBLE X.”

The world class runner said: “When I run, I don’t think about anyone else. I don’t think about my competition, I just do what I have to do. Nutrilite is a lot like me that way, because they don’t consider the competition in what they do, they just focus on being the best in their field,” he says. “I am confident that DOUBLE X and NUTRILITE will help me power up for the competitions yet to come.”

“Slight Edge Performance Program” Nutrition to Increase Speed and Athleticism.

Don’t you want to give your body what it needs to have more energy to train harder, complete your work outs and run faster?

World-class Olympic sprinter and former world’s fastest man Asafa Powell is the perfect example of an elite athlete who plant based supplementation made a tremendous difference for and the reason for that is he was now provided with the nutrients he needed to operate at maximum efficiency.

Why and how did good nutriton Help Asafa Powell improve his training, increase his speed and become the world’s fastest man?

Your skeletal muscles contain two main classifications of muscle fibers: slow twitch and fast twitch muscles. Healthy skeletal muscles play a huge role in your day-to-day functioning — they support your posture, as well as allow for movement and locomotion.

Slow-twitch muscle fibers contract at a relatively slow rate and play an important role in muscle endurance. Fast twitch muscle fibers contract rapidly, and allow for explosive movements. The health of your fast twitch muscle fibers relies partially on the quality of your diet, and consuming specific nutrients helps to nourish these muscle fibers.

VITAMIN E
One nutrient that can benefit your fast twitch muscle fibers is vitamin E, a family of eight antioxidant vitamins. When exercising our muscles produce metabolic activity that include the numerous chemical reactions required for muscle contraction that also generate a number of harmful chemicals called free radicals. Free radicals can damage your muscle fibers, causing tissue damage called oxidative stress that can lead to the destruction of muscle fibers. Vitamin E can help suppress the breakdown of fast twitch muscle fibers in the muscles in response to oxidative stress. Eating foods rich in vitamin E and also taking plant based vitamin E supplements might help to prevent fast twitch muscle fiber breakdown due to free radical exposure. Buy NUTRILITE DOUBLE X® and give your body 500% daily value of vitamin E.

VITAMIN D
Vitamin D also might have a beneficial effect on your fast twitch muscle fibers. Maintaining proper levels of vitamin D helps your body to properly use calcium, a mineral required for proper functioning of your muscles, including fast twitch muscle fibers. Consuming vitamin D can increase the number of fast twitch muscle fibers within your muscle tissue, as well as increase the size of these fibers, according to a 2009 study published in “Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise.” Overall, this translates to an increase in athletic performance. Buy NUTRILITE DOUBLE X® and give your body 100% daily value of vitamin D. Research shows that most people don’t get enough vitamin D in their diet. NUTRILITE Vitamin D3 provides the naturally occurring form of vitamin D your body produces when exposed to sunlight – in an amount that is equal to 20 glasses of milk.

While vitamins D and E might prove beneficial for maintaining healthy fast twitch muscle fibers, maintaining healthy muscles relies on a number of factors. Regular physical activity helps maintain or improve the size and numbers of fast twitch muscle fibers as well as maintains the health of your muscles as a whole. In addition, other nutritional factors, such as protein intake, help to determine the size of your muscles and muscle fibers.

PROTEIN
Your fast twitch muscle fibers — as well as your general muscle health — rely on adequate protein intake. Protein makes up a significant portion of your muscle tissue, and your muscle cells must continually generate new protein to maintain themselves. Eating foods rich in protein increases your intake of amino acids, the building blocks used to make protein within your cells. Fast twitch muscle fibers, in particular, require the amino acid beta-alanine. Beta-alanine is important to the production of carnosine, a compound associated with improved athletic performance and found in high levels in healthy fast twitch muscle fibers. Consume lean meats, eggs, dairy, soy and quinoa as sources of beta-alanine, as well as other amino acids required for healthy fast twitch muscles. Fuel your muscle-building power. The ultimate combination of flavor and performance to help fuel the building and rebuilding of lean muscle mass. 25 grams of protein and a nutritious blend of ingredients and antioxidants help muscles recover and rebuild, while boosting energy stores (or muscle energy) to ensure you are ready for your next workout. FEEL THE ENERGY. KNOW THE POWER.™BUY NUTRILITE® Whey Protein Bar – Cookies and Cream.

OTHER IMPORTANT NUTRIENTS
In addition, minerals like sodium, calcium and potassium help your nerves communicate with fast twitch muscle fibers, allowing for controlled muscle contraction and movement. To best nourish your fast twitch muscles, follow a balanced diet rich in lean proteins, fresh produce, whole grains, legumes and healthy fats. If you’re interested in increasing your fast twitch muscle fiber number or size, talk to a registered dietitian or sports scientist to recommend a diet and exercise program to help reach your goals.

“Slight Edge Performance Program” ACL Recovery: Nutrition for Healing Ligaments

Slight Edge Performance Program”
ACL Recovery: Nutrition for Healing Ligaments

An MRI on Wednesday February 13, 2013 revealed that Kentucky center Nerlens Noel has torn his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The star player was expected to be the NBA’s No. 1 overall selection in the upcoming draft.

New York Giants cornerback Terrell Thomas suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury to his right knee during pre-season practice in July 2012. Thomas, who signed a four-year $28.4 million deal in March, spent the entire 2011 season on injured reserve. Thomas also tore the ACL in his right knee in 2005 while at USC.

The NBA had four ACL blowouts last season (2011′-2012′) including Chicago’a Derrick Rose, New York’s Iman Shumpert, Minnesota’s Ricky Rubio and Oklahoma City’s Eric Maynor.

Leandro Barbosa a guard for the Boston Celtics fell to a torn ACL on Feb 12, 2013. Lou Williams Guard for the Atlanta Hawks suffered a Torn right knee ligament Jan 18, 2013. Rajon Rondo Point Guard for the Boston Celtics tore his right ACL on Jan 27, 2013.

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III had January 9th, 2013 to repair two torn ligaments in his right knee. The two-hour procedure was meant to repair Griffin’s torn lateral cruciate ligament or LCL – a band of fibrous tissue that connects the thigh bone to the outer bone of the lower leg – as well as his anterior cruciate ligament or ACL, which he tore initially in 2009. The new ACL injury occurred in grafted tissue used to treat the 2009 tear.

South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore, who tore an ACL in 2011 and battled all the way back, suffered an injury that looked as ugly as any we’ve ever seen playing against University of Tennessee in October 27th 2013.

An ACL injury is the tearing of the anterior cruciate (KROO-she-ate) ligament, or ACL, inside your knee joint. An ACL injury most commonly occurs during sports that involve sudden stops and changes in direction — such as football, basketball, soccer, tennis and volleyball. Depending on the severity of your ACL injury, treatment may include surgery to replace the torn ligament followed by rehabilitation exercises to help you regain strength and stability.

With so many ACL and ligament injuries happening in sports today there is a great need for information and education about how to help prevent this terrible injury. We also need information and education concerning how to recover quicker and stronger from an ACL or ligament injury.

Torn or pulled ligaments can be frustrating and slow to heal especially for athletes. Good nutrition can help quicken the recovery period and help strengthen injured ligaments.

Ligaments are cable like structures that hold your bones together. Without them you would not be able to move without falling apart. A strained or torn ligament actually involves millions of tiny tears of the collagen and that makes up the ligament. Vitamins can help with ligament repair. According to http://www.dynamicchiropractic.com the peak time for collagen synthesis to occur for healing is five to seven days after the injury. Therefore it is critical to introduce proper foods and vitamins and minerals doing that time. After the seventh day the potential for collagen to repair itself is dramatically reduced.

VITAMIN C
http://www.dynamicchiropractic.com suggests that vitamin C and a handful of B vitamins should be included in the healing process. Vitamin C has been shown in many studies to be a powerful anti-inflammatory nutrient especially when combined with proteolyptic enzymes. The combination is even more effective than many drugs used for the same purpose. The body recognizes drugs as poison and has a difficult time metabolizing them, but Vitamin C is natural and easily absorbed into the system. Vitamin C and iron are both essential amino acids necessary for the synthesis of collagen.
Click HERE to read about NUTRILITE Vitamin C Plus Extended Release. See how you can get 833% of the daily value of Vitamin C and other Nutrients in DOUBLE X Vitamin/Mineral/Phytonutrient

B VITAMINS
B-6 is involved in protein synthesis which is especially crucial after a ligament injury. B-12 is a macronutrient found in RNA and DNA. B-12 is critical because a deficiency can cause a slow down in collagen production. B-2 is another vitamin to consider taking since it, along with copper takes part in strengthening new collagen.
Vitamin B-12 is also important for energy! Click HERE and read about XS ENERGY!

MULTIVITAMIN
It’s a great idea to take a multivitamin as a daily routine, but the practice becomes even more critical when healing from a sprained or torn ligament. Generally the body begins healing three days post injury. It is at this point the body will be demanding nutrients, vitamins and minerals to repair the damage done to this remarkable biological machine known as the human body. A daily multivitamin provides the raw material for recovering from ligament damage with a broad range of nutrients, each contributing to the healing process to some extent.

“Slight Edge Performance Program” Injury Prevention and Athletic Performance

Today, more than 95% of all chronic disease is caused by food choice, toxic food ingredients, nutritional deficiencies and lack of physical exercise.” ~Mike Adams

Personal achievements are realized when athletes combine disciplined training, proper nutrition and daily supplements. Energy, Strength, Hydration, Recovery and Daily nutrition needs are important for athletes to get the most out of their training and to help them reach their personal goals.
In 2005 Jamaican Olympic Sprinter Asafa Powell Became the World’s Fastest man! Check out his Story HERE

Let’s look at a an example. Two high school Football All-Americans are training and preparing for their opportunity to compete and excel at the college level. Both wake up early in the morning before school and get a 45 min workout in. Then after school they do weight training with their team. Also 2 days a week they both have a personal strength and conditioning coach that teaches them speed, agility, power, flexibility and strength. Here’s where the big difference is…. PLAYER 1 takes a NSF Certified for Sport, Plant-Based multi vitamin and PLAYER 2 does not. The reason why PLAYER 1 takes a daily multivitamin is because he learned from his coach that there is a higher energy requirement for Athletes and that we often don’t consume enough of the protective phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals that help to Strengthen our physical performance, prevent sickness, injury and Quicken and Strengthen our Recovery Process.

Is your diet giving you all the vitamins and minerals you need for optimal health?
Check out what NFL Super Bowl MVP QB Kurt Warner uses to FUEL HERE

Player 1 has an Advantage and a “Slight Edge” over Player 2. Not only is Player 1 putting the Physical Effort in and eating a good diet he is also covering all nutritional gaps and giving his body the fuel it needs to perform at maximum level.
Check out what Olympic Long Distance Runner Kara Goucher says about the role Good Nutrition Plays in her Life HERE

So how much is good health worth to you and your family?

Here are some Key Benefits Player 2 could be missing because he is not using a daily multivitamin:

Healthy skin. Vitamin A, niacin, and grape extract.
Healthy bone development and healthy teeth. Vitamin A, vitamin D, calcium, and magnesium.
Healthy immune system. Vitamin A, vitamin C, zinc, selenium, and citrus bioflavonoid dehydrate.

How healthy is your diet?

When the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans were released in 2005, the federal recommendations for fruits and vegetables increased from 5-9 servings to 5-13 servings per day for adults. Unfortunately, despite known health benefits of higher intakes of fruits and vegetables, very few Americans are consuming these recommended intake levels. Given that fruit and vegetable intakes are suboptimal for most people, it is reasonable to conclude that intake of the phytonutrients typically provided in these foods is less than optimal, too. Essentially, there is a “phytonutrient gap” among the majority of Americans.

“Slight Edge Performance” Sport Nutrition Tip (BETA-CAROTENE)

Urgent! “Slight Edge Performance” Sport Nutrition Tip of the Day! When it comes to your Health Do Not just play the GAME! Learn and Understand how the GAME is played! Today you will Learn about the benefits of BETA-CAROTENE pertaining to your Health and Performance. Almost all the green-yellow-orange vegetables and fruits are rich sources of beta carotene which is a VERY important PHYTONUTRIENT found in PLANTS. People whose diets are rich in beta carotene have lower risk of heart disease. Beta carotene helps activate your thymus gland, one of your most important sources of immune protection. Being an important flavonoid compound, beta carotene has powerful antioxidant functions, helps the body scavenge free radicals, thereby limiting the damage to cell membranes, DNA and protein structures in the cell. Research studies suggest that dietary intake of foods high in β-carotene has positive association with decreased risk of cardio-vascular disease as well as oral cavity, and lung cancers. Beta Carotene, along with other carotenoids, is a molecule that the body easily changes into Vitamin A. Vitamin A is necessary for a large number of metabolic functions similar to other vitamins. When converted to vitamin A in the intestines it has all the functions of vitamin A such as visual cycle, reproduction (sperm production), maintenance of epithelial functions, growth and development. Of the 600 known carotenoids, beta-carotene is the most studied and the most physiologically and nutritionally important member of the carotene family. It also effective in skin disorders, enhances immunity, protects against toxins and cancer formations, colds, flu, and infections. It is an antioxidant and protector of the cells while slowing the aging process. People whose diets are rich in beta carotene have lower risk of heart disease. Beta carotene works with vitamin E to reduce the oxidation of LDL-cholesterol, which lowers the risk of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease. Studies show that people who eat a diet rich in carotenoids, had a much lower risk of breast, colon cancer and lung cancer. One way that carotenoids fight cancer is through their antioxidant capacity. Another way that they help is to keep your cells in proper communication, an effective preventive measure against the growth of cancer cells.

What’s a phytonutrient and why are there so many in NUTRILITE DOUBLE X Vitamin/Mineral/Phytonutrient?
Phytonutrients are naturally occurring chemicals in plants that help fight off insects, resist disease, promote healthy growth, and enhance survival. Nutrilite has always included these plant nutrients in its supplement formulas because of their health benefits to humans. The phytonutrients found in the 20 plant concentrates in DOUBLE X supplement offer you both broad and targeted antioxidant protection. Why are antioxidants important?
Antioxidants are your natural defenses against free radicals. Free radicals oxidize compounds in your cells starting a chain reaction of instability and damage. The antioxidants in NUTRILITE DOUBLE X Vitamin/Mineral/Phytonutrient help neutralize free radicals in five categories and offer protection – right down to your cells!

“Slight Edge Performance” Sport Nutrition Tip of the Day!(CHROMIUM)

Chromium is an essential mineral. Your body needs it but cannot produce it. The typical diets of Americans are low in Chromium which is dangerous because low chromium levels can increase your risk for chronic diseases. Chromium works with insulin to improve transportation of glucose out of the blood and into the Cell. This function improves your health in so many ways! Chromium is vital for carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism. Chromium can be found in common foods like mushrooms, cheese whole-grain bread and cereals. Student-Athletes I recommend that you supplement with a NSF, Certified for Sport, plant based, organic, high-quality Multivitamin/ Multimineral like NUTRILITE DOUBLE X! It’s the Best in my Opinion. Contact me for more info and I’ll teach you how to get it! (http://www.drkalsweightlosstips.com) has Great Info about the benefits of Chromium and how it helps in the weight loss Process!
